More than 200 Union Carpenters in hardhats and vests descended on Sacramento for a rally in support of two bills that will create more affordable housing and Union jobs in California: SB 4 and SB 423.
Both SB 4 and SB 423 will create hundreds of jobs for Union Carpenters while creating a pathway to build more affordable housing in the Golden State. Both bills require prevailing wages, family medical healthcare, apprenticeship, and will have the strongest labor compliance language in the nation.
SB 423 author, California Senator Scott Wiener spoke at the rally alongside Assembly Member Buffy Wicks and Assembly Member Tina McKinnor. SWMSRCC Executive Secretary-Treasurer Pete Rodriguez also spoke during the rally and said, “the status quo doesn’t make the cut anymore, and that’s why we have two bills today SB 4 and SB 423 that cuts through the red tape and makes it easier to build affordable housing and puts hardworking Union members to work.”
