The Western States Carpenters are proud to support the fourth annual Construction Inclusion Week. Starting on October 14, this week emphasizes the importance of fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment on the jobsite and in the workplace. As the industry faces a generation looking to hang up their bags, with 41% of the workforce set to retire by 2031, it’s crucial that we help to erase the hate. The WSRCC is focused on attracting workers from diverse backgrounds and with successful programs like Brothers Keeper and Boots, we are making sure that we are doing our part to meet these impending demands.
Recent bias incidents, such as racist graffiti and exclusionary practices, remind us of the ongoing need for vigilance and action. Signatory contractor such as Turner Construction, have heard the call as well and are taking actions such as regularly monitoring job sites and have shut down projects to ensure worker safety and inclusion. The Western States Carpenters fully support such initiatives, as EST Frank Hawk stresses, “creating a respectful and harmonious jobsite is essential for our Unions long-term success and for the industry as a whole. There is no two ways about it.”
The Western States Regional Council of Carpenters remains committed to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion, ensuring that the construction industry remains a place where everyone can thrive. Together, we’re building a more inclusive and effective future for all.
