Local chapters of the Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters in Albuquerque, Phoenix, and Las Vegas (and Millwrights in Southern California) gathered at Window Rock to drop off 150 Carpenter Care Packages and pallets of water to help the Navajo Nation as they are battling COVID-19.
The Nation has suffered more than 9,000 cases of COVID-19 and more than 450 deaths. Many of our members live on The Nation (or have family that live on The Nation). We wanted to deliver some help to the people living on the reservation.
The Carpenter Care Packages contained much needed items such as: groceries (pasta, rice, tomato sauce, and more items) and personal care items (toilet paper, toothpaste, soap, and more items). The Carpenters also dropped off five pallets of water. Navajo Nation President, Jonathon Nez and Vice President, Myron Lizer were on hand to receive the deliveries.
The Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters and The Navajo Nation has established a partnership to build housing and a Training Center on the reservation. At the future Training Center, the Navajo will learn the carpentry trade to build housing that The Nation needs now and into the future.
