CELEBRATING INFRASTRUCTURE IN PHOENIX

Secretary of Transportation Visits Phoenix on Victory Lap for Infrastructure Bill.

The second phase of Phoenix’s light rail extension was celebrated with Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg, Senator Mark Kelly, and Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallegos.  The elected officials gathered with SWMSRCC Regional Manager and Local 1912 President Fabian Sandez to laud Valley Metro’s sign off on the project.  With the bipartisan Infrastructure Bill now law, Valley Metro hopes that money from the bill will further fund the project.

Buttigieg spoke at a morning event held at the shuttered Metrocenter Mall property near Interstate 17 and Dunlap Avenue, which will be the end of the future northwest extension of the light rail line that’s slated to open in 2024.

Local 1912 President Fabian Sandez spoke about the important work that Union Carpenters are performing on the light rail extension and in greater Phoenix.  The signing of the infrastructure bill into law will bring hundreds of Union jobs to the Valley of the Sun.

KSAZ Fox 10 covered the event.
