More than 1,000 men and women showed up to LA Trade Tech for a chance to become a Union Carpenter. Southwest Mountain States Carpenters held our first post-pandemic Combine Day. 100+ contractors including Skanska, Swinerton, and PCL were on-site to hire for open positions.
Hiring contractors evaluated the attendees as as they navigated a 8-Station Skills Camp. The Skills Camp Stations included:
• 4×4 Carrying
• Scaffold Assembly
• Drywall Etching
• Tape Measure
• Screw Off
• Hammering
• Plywood Carry
• Corbel mounting
At the end of the day, more than a hundred people came away from Combine Day with a job. Many more filled out information with contractors to be contacted when a job becomes available. KNBC and the Los Angeles Sentinel were on-hand to cover the event.
