Contractor Spotlight: Juan Salcedo at Swinerton Builders

Having a skilled workforce will always have a return on investment.

While in a “dead end job” (almost 20 years ago) family and friends informed Juan Salcedo about the Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters. Upon joining, Juan began his apprenticeship program and started working in the field. With hard work and dedication, he is now a Superintendent and Project Manager for Swinerton Builder.

From the contractor’s perspective, Juan says that he sees the value of hiring Union and working with the Southwest Carpenters to do so. Having gone through the apprenticeship program himself, he emphasizes the importance of a well-trained workforce and lists training as the key to longevity in the trade.

Being a Signatory Contractor has its benefits.

According to Salcedo, perks of being a signatory contractor include accessibility. He states that all it takes is a phone call to guarantee that they will receive quality labor. One of the ways the Union and signatory contractors, like Swinerton, work together is by collaborating on events in order to hire perspective new members. To date, Swinerton has attended all of the Carpenter Combine Day events and has been successful in onboarding manpower for all of their projects in Southern California.
