Dozens Descend on Phoenix Training Center for Citizenship Workshop

Carpenters Local 1912 host free citizenship workshop for the public and Union members.

Local 1912 partnered with Poder Latinx to host a citizenship workshop for Union and community members. Trained volunteers completed N-400 applications for eligible permanent residents and immigration lawyers were present to review and answer any questions that applicants may have had.

There are currently 9 million permanent residents that are eligible for citizenship, but only 10% naturalize each year. High costs, lack of knowledge, and language barrier are listed as the top reasons that prevent individuals from naturalizing. With the recent increase in the application fee to become a naturalized citizen now totaling $760, free events like this can help create a pathway for community members to attain their citizen status.

Local 1912 looks forward to host additional workshops in the future. Click here to watch CBS 5’s coverage of this event.
