First BOOTS class in Washington

BOOTS. pre-apprenticeship program heads north to Kent.

This month the WSRCC celebrated another first. Six young women made it through the inaugural Bridging Outstanding Opportunities with Tradeswoman Skills (BOOTS) class held at our Kent, Washington, Training Center.

This is also special because this class was taught by our newest instructor Dani Ferris. After 12 years as a scaffolder, Dani was asked to join the training fund. This first BOOTS class was as important to Dani as it was for the women who graduated. “I couldn’t have asked for a better group of women. We had seven start and six finish . . . and the seventh said she’d come back!” Dani said.

It was not only a boost of well-earned confidence for the future tradeswomen, but it was also an affirmation that Dani has what it takes to teach. “I didn’t see it at first, how they could want me to teach. But here I am, and I love it.“

This first BOOTS. class follows on the heels of our first Brothers Keeper Class. The two programs have now launched and delivered resoundingly.
