On Monday, California Assemblymember Diane Dixon (AD 72) presented House Resolution 17 at the State Capitol. The resolution specifically recognizes Building Outstanding Opportunities with Tradeswomen Skills (BOOTS), a Southwest Mount States Training Fund (SWMSTF) Pre-Apprenticeship program that provides skills and training for women pursuing carpentry careers.
Assemblymember Dixon, along with Sierra Killey (one of Dixon’s constituents and BOOTS graduate) and Assistant Director of SWMSTF Paula Resa, accepted the Assembly Resolution.
“It is an honor to highlight the opportunity presented by this program, and I hope more women will sign up to learn these specialized skills,” Dixon stated in a press release.
While the BOOTS program continues to grow throughout WSRCC’s 12 states, in California, there are currently 376 women enrolled, and graduates of the program have a high success rate of gaining employment through WSRCC signatory contractors.
