Legends in the Field: Albert Blanchet

Albert’s message to Apprentices is clear: join the Union for a stable future and the chance to develop skills that will last a lifetime.

Albert Blanchet, also known as “Godfather of Decks,” is a seasoned Union Carpenter from San Diego, renowned not only for his skills but also for his unwavering dedication to his craft. For over 30 years, Albert has worked in construction, with a special passion for building decks at heights most people wouldn’t dare. His expertise in building decks has made him a legend in the field.

Albert’s journey began when he moved to San Diego after facing challenges in Los Angeles, where he worked non-union. The Carpenters Union, he explains, provided him with financial stability, health benefits, and retirement security—things he never had in non-union jobs. Over the years, he was able to save for a home, buy a car, and provide for his family, including covering his children’s education.

Albert has mentored many young Apprentices, guiding them into the Union and helping them grow in their careers. He proudly speaks of his son, who went on to become a project engineer after benefiting from the Union’s support. Albert’s message to young workers is clear: join the Union for a stable future and the chance to develop skills that will last a lifetime.
