On The Spot: Juan Manuel Fernandez

From the Fields to the Carpenters Union learn about Juan Manuel Fernandez’s Journey with the Carpenters Union.

For 15 years, Juan Manuel Fernandez worked in the hot fields of Central California, picking grapes and facing tough farm labor with little chance for advancement. Despite the hard work, upward mobility felt out of reach. Determined, Juan Manuel kept pushing forward to find better opportunities for his family. He later joined the Carpenters Union, which offered him not just better pay, but a real career—one with valuable skills, health benefits, and long-term job security. Juan Manuel credits his success to the mentorship he received, emphasizing how vital it is for Apprentices to have support as they grow in their careers. Now, Juan Manuel is using his skills on the new Hard Rock Hotel project, where he’s proud to contribute something to his community. His story is a testament to the power of hard work, mentorship, and the opportunities that come with being part of a Union.
