RECENT PRESS ACROSS THE SOUTHWEST MOUNTAIN STATES

Media Has Had Their Eyes on the SWMSRCC.

From Arizona to Las Vegas to Santa Maria to Los Angeles, media across the Southwest Mountain States have had their eyes on the SWMSRCC.  Here are some highlights:

Santa Maria, CA:

Volunteer Carpenters from Local 805 built an 80-sqft. playhouse with the Make A Wish Foundation for Katalina Covarrubias.  Katalina was diagnosed with Lymphoblastic Lymphoma in 2020. Katalina’s wish was to have her own private bedroom – she currently shares with her siblings.

The playhouse is a surprise for Katalina.  She thinks it’s a shed being built in the backyard to house garage supplies.  The finished playhouse will be unveiled to Katalina in the coming weeks.

KEYT and KKFX covered the event.

Las Vegas, NV:

Senator Jacky Rosen met with members of Local 1977 at the Southwest Mountain States Carpenters Training Center in Las Vegas to hear directly about how the federal government can support Nevada’s union workers and discuss the recent passage of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which Senator Rosen helped write and is now poised to create thousands of good-paying construction jobs that lead to good careers in Nevada. During her visit, Senator Rosen toured the facility and learned more about the workforce training efforts there.

KTNV covered the Senator’s visit.

Phoenix, AZ:

Volunteer Carpenters from Local 1912 in Phoenix worked with Habitat for Humanity to build two 5-bedroom homes (side-by-side) for US VETS.  The houses will act as transitioning housing for female Veterans as they move from the service to private life.

ABC 15 in Phoenix covered the event.

Whittier, CA:

The Southwest Carpenters Training Fund hosted Congresswoman Linda Sánchez in Whittier to review BOOTS and Brothers’ Keeper Pre-Apprenticeship classes.

Telemundo Los Angeles, Spectrum News LA, and the San Gabriel Valley Tribune covered the visit.
