SWMSRCC Career Connections and CIEF Host Trades Day Event in Riverside

Students explore career opportunities in construction at Trades Day.

More than 400 students from 9 school districts attended the Construction Industry Education Foundation’s Trades Day held at the Moreno Valley Conference and Recreation Center. Southwest Mountain States Regional Council of Carpenters proudly co-sponsored the event that invited students to explore their futures in the construction industry.

Career Connections kicked off each wave of the event with a “toolbox talk” that reviewed the importance of safety. Then, students had the opportunity to participate in the various construction themed skills station the event had to offer. The Career Connections booth included a measuring, drilling, and hammering station.

With more students looking for additional opportunities to earn middle-class wages without incurring student debt, introduction youth to careers in construction has never been more important. Through construction courses and community events, such as Trades Day, we can create a pipeline for students to attain good, union jobs and benefits directly out of high school.
