30th Annual Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta March and Celebration
Local 1319 Carpenters came out this past Saturday to pay tribute to the civil rights activist and Union champion Dolores Huerta. Shoulder to shoulder Union Carpenters joined Huerta through Albuquerque for the Justice March. The annual event is hosted by the National Hispanic Cultural center and holds family friendly activities including a car show, kids crafts, and live dance and music performances. This unique celebration is something the Carpenters community looks forward to each year.
CIEF Design Build Competition
Southwest Mountain States Carpenters was honored to sponsor and judge the 38th Annual CIEF Design Construction Competition in Huntington Beach this week. Highschool and college students from around Southern California battled to build small structures, which are judged on their design, construction, code compliance and safety. SWMS Career Connections schools took four of the seven top prizes, including Tahquitz High School who took home the top prize winning Best in Show. We are very proud of every single one of these participants! Help our schools win the People Choice award by clicking here and voting for Tahquitz, Apple Valley, and Sultana high schools.
Rally in support of SB4 and SB423
Over 200 SWMS Carpenters descended on the California State Capitol building standing shoulder-to-shoulder with our NorCal Brothers and Sisters in support of Senate Bills 4 and 423. The rain didn’t dappen the spirits of Union Carpenters as they rallied through the streets chanting, “What’s it all about? HOUSING!” In a state with a growing housing crisis, legislation like SB4 and SB423 are a critical step towards streamlining the construction of affordable housing.
