Retired Union Carpenter, Lamar Hanger, has embarked on a second career as an Instructor at Fontana High School (Fontana, CA) teaching the Career Connections curriculum. Lamar’s new classroom was in disrepair and not ready to receive his new students so he enlisted the help of Union Carpenter volunteers to help with the work. Lamar was eager to teach the next generation of Union Carpenters and reached out to Local 714 for help. Teaching the Career Connections curriculum at participating high schools is a great way for retired Union Carpenters to make extra money.
CUPP Rewards Are Here!
Members who volunteer more than 12 hours a year are eligible for CUPP rewards. This year’s crop of Rewards items include SWRCC branded barbeque tools, duffle bag, boxing gloves, fire pit, barbeque, and much more. All the Rewards items are ranked by tier and eligible CUPP hours.

Vote “No” on California Recall Rally at Local 213
70+ Union Carpenters from Southwest Mountain States Carpenters Local 213 rallied in Monterey Park against the Governor Recall. Participating Carpenters received doorhangers (a total of 700!) to be distributed door-to-door to member’s homes throughout Los Angeles County. Construction workers were deemed essential by Governor Newsom during the pandemic. Carpenters would like to remain essential to help build Southern California for the 2028 Olympics and the forthcoming infrastructure projects coming as a result of a passed Infrastructure Bill. Congresswoman Judy Chu, LA County Supervisor Chair Hilda Solis, Monterey Park Mayor Pro Tem Henry Lo, and Alhambra Mayor Sasha Perez were also in attendance.
