SWMSRCC and Homeboy Industries Partner to Create New Job Opportunities
Locals 213 and 721 partnered with Homeboy Industries to assemble trucks for Valley Vista Services at the Whittier Training Center. 10 former gang members were partnered with Union Carpenters to assemble the trucks. This event was an introduction to Homeboy Industries on the career pathways with the SWMSRCC for their clients. Executives from Homeboy were given a presentation on the Pre-Apprenticeship programs available to them including Brothers’ Keeper. KABC-TV was on hand to cover the event.
Local 714 Celebrates Their Graduates
Local 714 held a graduation ceremony for all their members who Journeyed Out this year. More than 60 members received certificates over the weekend. EST Langford, President Rodriguez, and Executive Director of Southwest Mountain States Carpenters Training Fund Louis Ontiveros gave commencement speeches and helped to give the graduates their certificates.
Local 1977 AATF and Nevada SEIU Community Christmas
The African American Task Force from Local 1977 partnered with the Nevada SEIU to host a Community Christmas event over the weekend. Community Christmas is a toy drive event held to distribute toys to families in need. The AATF volunteers helped pass out toys during the event.
