SWMSRCC TOP THREE: WEEK OF FEBRUARY 14

Here is the SWMSRCC Top Three for the week of February 14th.

Spreading Community Wealth:

Volunteer Union Carpenters from Local 661 in Bakersfield continue to spread goodwill around the city by helping their fellow Bakersfield residents with some needed work.

Local 661 partnered with Rebuilding Kern County to build an ADA wheelchair ramp for a home in Bakersfield.  Alfredo Diaz-Martinez was in need of a ramp for his disabled father. Alfredo attends college by day and is a janitor at night and he just purchased a home for himself, his 10-year old sister and his mother and father.   His father is medically disabled and needs the ramp to get in and out of the new home.  KGET was on-hand to cover this event.

Volunteer Union Carpenters taped and painted the outside of the home of Army Sargent  Lupe Flores.  Sgt. Flores served 8 years in Iran and received a Commendation Medal for his service.  Lupe’s home has fallen into disrepair and he was unable to do the work himself.

Building Homes for Veterans:

Local 1977 in Las Vegas partnered with Habitat for Humanity Central Phoenix to build two homes for Veterans.  These are the 116th and 117th houses that H4H has built in the Phoenix area. The volunteers from Local 1977 hung drywall and assisted with other construction needs on the two homes being built for two local Veterans.  The homes are part of the Pittman Neighborhood Build Project in Henderson, which will consist of twenty single family attached homes when complete.

Solidarity Day 2022 – Save the Date:
