AATF Juneteenth Celebrations in Las Vegas, NV:
Over the weekend, our Las Vegas Carpenters from Local 1977 gathered to host the 1st Annual African American Task Force (AATF) Juneteenth BBQ! When they weren’t eating delicious food and kicking back with their fellow Carpenter’s and family members, these Carpenters were also at the 21st Annual Las Vegas Juneteenth Festival, where the AATF promoted SWMSRCC apprenticeships and Career Connections, reaching out to not only community leaders but to underserviced community members.
This year marks only the 2nd year that Juneteenth has been federally recognized as a holiday. Juneteenth is a day of remembrance recognizing the end of slavery on June 19th, 1865.
Exciting Week for AB2011:
SWMSRCC proudly cosponsors this bill alongside with the Northern Carpenters and the California Housing Consortium. Tomorrow, June 21st, SWRCC will attend a rally to further support for the bill at the California State Capital.
The LA Times has officially announced their support for Assemblymember Buffy Wick’s AB-2011, the win-win bill that will bring desperately needed affordable housing to California alongside jobs with union wages and union benefits.
In their editorial, the LA Times wrote “If you care about solving the housing crisis and want California lawmakers to put the interests of the whole state over the demands of the few, then keep your eye on AB2011 by Assemblymember Buffy Wicks.”

Local 661 Carpenters Beautify Bakersfield:
On Saturday, Local 661 Bakersfield Carpenters teamed up with Bakersfield City Recreations and Parks to volunteer by building and repairing planting beds for the Seeds of Inspiration Organic Community Garden. This community garden received a renovation that was long overdue since before the pandemic, and we are so glad our Local 661 Carpenters teamed up for this community effort.
Thank you Local 661 for Keeping Bakersfield Beautiful! Read and watch more about our Carpenters volunteering here!
