Tax Fraud Days of Action are here, and the fight against fraud in construction is front and center. The week kicks off April 12th, and the Western States Regional Council of Carpenters will rally alongside members and elected leaders across the country spotlighting a crisis that’s draining billions from our communities: construction industry tax fraud.
This isn’t just a labor issue—it’s a community issue. When crooked contractors break the law by paying workers under the table, misclassifying employees, and avoiding payroll taxes, they’re robbing workers of wages and benefits while sticking taxpayers with the tab. Recent estimates show that nearly $28 billion is lost each year to this kind of fraud. Meanwhile, nearly 4 in 10 construction workers are pushed to rely on public assistance just to get by.
WSRCC isn’t staying silent. We’re boots on the ground educating the public, pushing for legislation, and demanding real enforcement. Our message is clear: honest contractors shouldn’t have to compete with cheaters, and working people deserve good jobs, wages, and benefits.
This week, we act—not just for carpenters, but for every taxpayer, every community, and every family who loses when lawlessness prevails. Join us in standing up, speaking out, and fighting back.
