This past Saturday, Union Carpenter volunteers from four Southern California Locals, along with their families, came together at the Kia Forum for the annual Christmas Tree Giveaway. The event, in partnership with the PFC Adrienne L. Mitchell Post 2122 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), offered free Christmas trees to veterans and local families, spreading holiday cheer to those who might need it most. This year’s giveaway was especially meaningful because the Western States Regional Council of Carpenters decided to match the VFW’s donation of trees bringing the total to 400 trees for distribution. This is double the number given out in previous years.
As early as 3:30 AM, cars began lining up, and by 5 AM, the giveaway began. The demand was so high that all the trees were distributed within just 2.5 hours!
For many, this event was more than just receiving a tree. It was an opportunity to connect with the community and support veterans during the holiday season. Volunteers worked hard to ensure that each person felt welcome and valued, making the event a true display of unity and generosity.
Looking ahead, plans for next year’s event are even more ambitious. Carpenters and Veterans alike hope to distribute 800 trees in 2025 to reach more families in need and let them know that we care. It’s a powerful reminder of the spirit of giving and the difference a community can make in people’s lives.
