A new study confirms a “Union Safety Effect” on construction sites.
A new study by the Institute for Work and Health in Toronto found that that lost-time injury claims were 31% lower on Union construction jobs than non-Union jobs.
The study analyzed data from 50,000 companies representing 1.7 million workers in the Industrial, Commercial, and Institutional sectors from 2012-2018.
The current study also found that as the size of the company grows, the incidence of claims drops, with 36 percent fewer claims in unionized companies with more than 50 employees — and the bigger firms tend to be unionized.
