WSRCC Top Three: Week of February 12th

Here is the WSRCC Top Three for the week of February 12th.

Local 555 Wage Theft Update

This week, Union Carpenters got one-step closer to protecting workers in the state of Colorado. The House Business Affairs & Labor Commission voted 8-3 in favor of house bill 24-1008. HB24-1008, commonly referred to as the Wage Theft bill, aims to hold general contractors more accountable for lost wages and will serve to discourage the detrimental practice. This is a great step forward for Colorado and we look forward to the changes this bill can bring.

Local 971 aids Spread the Word

Local 971 Union Carpenters and their families partnered with Spread the Word Nevada to clean/prepare gently-used donated books for school-aged children. Spread the Word Nevada is the state’s largest children’s literacy nonprofit, distributing over 60,000 books a month to children attending elementary schools in underserved neighborhoods. Carpenters were ready to answer the call to clean books.

Local 323 elected visit

Councilwoman Arleen Rojas and Carson City Mayor Lula Davis-Jones came by to tour Local 323’s new training center in South LA. Carson City Mayor Davis-Jones took the time to meet with and talk to some of our Boots and Brothers Keeper apprentices while experiencing firsthand what these programs have to offer. The Apprentices showed them what they were learning, and Councilwoman Rojas even jumped right in and tried out our cutting-edge virtual welding machine herself.
